Privacy Policy — Hiragana & Katakana with Moji

Last updated: November 6, 2026.

Daiki Hirose (“we”, “us”) provides Hiragana & Katakana with Moji, shown on your home screen as Moji Kana (the “App”). Contact: dhirose.business@gmail.com.

1. Information on your device

No App account or login is required. The name you optionally enter during onboarding, including its approximate katakana display, stays on your device. We do not send that name to RevenueCat or PostHog.

The App stores learning progress and preferences on your device: kana and word practice results and review schedules, completed lessons and units, words read, kana attempted in writing, introductions to printed forms, Moji’s growth stage, onboarding progress, your selected learning reason, previous-learning experience and obstacle (if answered), and daily minutes, reminder time, sound and romaji preferences, the usage-sharing setting, and the last verified subscription-access status. A local copy of unreadable saved data may be retained for recovery. These records are not a cloud backup.

If you choose Share, the App opens the operating system share sheet with a fixed learning message. Your onboarding name is not added. Any destination you select handles the message under its own terms.

2. Microphone and reminders

Microphone access is optional and requested after your action. Moji only checks how loud your voice is. The short recording is never sent and is deleted right after listening, or the next time you open the app if it closes unexpectedly. It does not recognise speech, transcribe words, identify your voice, or grade pronunciation. If a device interruption or error prevents deletion, the App keeps the file path locally and retries deletion when the App next opens and during voice-feature start or cleanup. You can continue with “I said it” without granting microphone permission.

An optional daily reminder is scheduled locally on your device. Its time and content are handled by the App and the operating system. The App does not register a remote push-notification token or send your reminder time to analytics. You can decline notifications and keep learning, or turn reminders off in Settings. Microphone and notification permissions can also be changed in iOS Settings.

3. Usage analytics and your choice

When “Share usage data” is on, the App uses PostHog to understand use of learning features and purchase flows and improve the App. Whether consent is required is based on your device region setting or time zone. When either indicates a region such as the EEA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or related territories, the App asks for your consent after onboarding and sends analytics only after your consent. If the device region is unavailable, the App also waits for consent. In other regions, this setting is on by default, and you can turn it off anytime in Settings. Turning off “Share usage data” stops new analytics collection and sending by this App. The App clears pending event queues and attempts to cancel requests in progress. Turning this setting off cannot recall a request already received by the service, delete previously received data, or stop subscription processing.

The App limits events and their properties to the following:

Each event includes an App label and a setting that disables IP-based geolocation ($geoip_disable). The SDK also uses a randomly generated analytics identifier and event identifiers and timestamps. Names, typed answers, handwriting paths, audio, free-text error messages and the full local progress record are not included in these event properties. The App turns off automatic screen or session recordings, automatic crash reporting, automatic lifecycle events and remote feature or configuration retrieval. Network services necessarily process connection information such as IP addresses; disabling geolocation does not mean that no IP address reaches a server.

4. Purchases and service providers

Apple handles App Store payments, subscription management and refund requests. We do not receive your payment-card number. RevenueCat validates and restores purchases and maintains subscription access using an automatically generated anonymous App User ID, purchase or transaction records, and subscription status. We do not supply your onboarding name, email address or an account login ID to RevenueCat. “Anonymous” describes the identifier; it does not mean that no persistent purchase record exists.

The services involved are Apple, RevenueCat and PostHog. Their own information practices also apply: Apple Privacy Policy, RevenueCat Privacy Policy and PostHog Privacy Policy.

The App has no advertising integration, does not request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission, and does not use an advertising identifier to track you across other companies’ apps or websites. It does not access your contacts, photo library, health information or GPS location. If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include so we can respond.

5. Retention and deletion

Local progress and settings remain until the App’s local data is removed. Deleting the App through iOS ordinarily removes its local data; offloading is different and can retain data. Operating-system backups or device migration may retain or restore copies outside the App’s own storage controls. The App does not provide its own cloud progress-sync service. Temporary voice files follow the deletion and retry process in section 2.

Deleting the App or turning off usage sharing does not cancel an Apple subscription or delete records already held by Apple, RevenueCat, PostHog or in support email. To request access, correction or deletion of information we can identify and control, contact dhirose.business@gmail.com. With anonymous identifiers, we may need additional information to locate records; please do not send passwords or payment-card details. For records held by RevenueCat or PostHog that we can identify, we will request deletion from that service. Apple, RevenueCat and PostHog retain and delete information under their own policies and applicable law.

6. International users and legal bases

Apple, RevenueCat and PostHog may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, erase or obtain a copy of your information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, and complain to a competent data-protection authority. Contact us to exercise these rights. Turning off usage sharing does not affect access to learning features.

Where applicable, we process subscription and access information to perform our contract with you. Where your device region setting or time zone indicates a region such as the EEA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or related territories, we process optional usage analytics only after your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings. In other regions, we process optional usage analytics on the basis of our legitimate interests in understanding and improving the App; you can turn it off anytime in Settings. We process support requests to respond to you and meet our legal obligations.

7. Children under 13

The App is designed for adult beginners and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us so we can investigate and address information within our control.

8. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the App or its information practices change. The revised policy will show its update date; material changes will be communicated as required by applicable law.
