End User License Agreement — Hiragana & Katakana with Moji
Last updated: November 6, 2026.
This End User License Agreement (the “EULA”) is between you and Daiki Hirose (“we”, “us”) for Hiragana & Katakana with Moji, shown on your home screen as Moji Kana (the “App”). By downloading or using the App, you agree to this EULA. Contact: dhirose.business@gmail.com. Our Privacy Policy explains how information is handled.
1. Scope and licence
We grant you a non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the App for your personal, non-commercial purposes on Apple-branded products that you own or control. This licence is subject to the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions and the Usage Rules, including Family Sharing and volume-purchasing rules where they apply. Other accounts associated with the purchaser may access and use the App as those rules permit.
The App is licensed, not sold. You may not unlawfully copy, sell, distribute, modify, reverse engineer, interfere with, or bypass access controls for the App, or infringe another person’s rights. These restrictions do not limit rights granted to you under applicable law or third-party open-source licences.
2. Learning features and free access
The App is a learning aid for adult beginners learning to recognize, listen to, write and read hiragana and katakana. It includes kana lessons, guided writing, listening and reading questions, review, a kana chart and word practice. The microphone feature responds to volume, not pronunciation accuracy.
Without a subscription, you can study Day 1: the あ, か and さ rows, totalling 15 hiragana, including the writing and word activities in those units. The kana chart and its sounds are free, as are review and practice of kana you have studied. Chart access does not unlock all lessons. A subscription unlocks the remaining lessons and courses while access is active, including katakana, look-alikes and word courses. Learning progress remains on your device; the App does not offer its own account-based cloud progress sync.
3. Auto-renewable subscriptions
Both plans provide the same paid access for their selected term:
| Plan | US price | Renewal period |
|---|---|---|
| Week | $5.99 per week | Every week |
| Year | $39.99 per year | Every year |
There is no free trial and no lifetime or one-time purchase option. Prices above are US prices. In other countries or regions, the price displayed by the App Store applies. Review the local currency, applicable taxes and total price on Apple’s purchase screen before confirming.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period, at the applicable renewal price. Any price changes follow Apple’s applicable notice and consent rules. Manage or cancel through iOS Settings > your Apple Account > Subscriptions, or use “Manage subscription” in the App’s Settings. Cancellation stops future renewals; paid access normally continues until the current paid period ends. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
Use “Restore” in Settings or on the purchase screen while signed in to the Apple Account used for purchase to restore eligible active subscription access. An internet connection is needed to confirm purchases and restore access. Restoring a subscription does not restore local learning progress. Refund eligibility and processing are handled by Apple; you can request a refund through Apple’s Report a Problem. We do not independently issue pro-rata refunds or override Apple’s billing decisions. Nothing in this EULA limits statutory consumer rights.
4. Intellectual property and third-party materials
The App’s original software, text, character artwork and interface belong to us or their respective licensors. Third-party materials remain subject to their own licences.
- Stroke guides use KanjiVG, copyright Ulrich Apel and the KanjiVG contributors, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 (CC BY-SA 3.0). Combination kana guides are adapted by scaling and combining original strokes. The adapted stroke data, its attribution and licence are available at https://mojijapanese.com/kana/strokes/. These guides and adaptations remain subject to CC BY-SA 3.0; that licence does not apply to the entire App.
- The bundled Klee One kana subset, Lora, and Nunito fonts are licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. See Settings > Licenses for notices and licence links.
5. Availability and limitations
We aim to provide useful learning materials, but do not guarantee mastery, exam results, pronunciation accuracy, or progress within a particular number of days. Illustrations, romanization and learning guidance are aids and may contain errors. Availability can be affected by device, storage, network or store-service problems. Local learning progress can be lost; purchase restoration is separate from progress recovery.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the App is provided as available without additional guarantees of uninterrupted or error-free operation. Nothing here excludes liability for fraud, intentional misconduct, gross negligence, or any liability or consumer-protection remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.
6. Apple terms
This EULA is between you and us, not Apple Inc. or its subsidiaries. We, not Apple, are responsible for the App and its content, maintenance and support, applicable warranties, and product claims, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer-protection, and privacy claims. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support.
If the App fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price paid for the App. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the App and we are solely responsible for other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty.
We, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging any claim that the App infringes a third party’s intellectual-property rights.
You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a United States Government embargo or designated by the United States Government as a terrorist-supporting country, and are not listed on any United States Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the App.
Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this EULA and, upon your acceptance, Apple has the right, and is deemed to have accepted the right, to enforce it against you as a third-party beneficiary.
7. Changes, governing law and consumer protection
We may update this EULA when necessary. Material changes will be communicated where required by law. This EULA is governed by Japanese law. To the extent a venue agreement is legally effective, disputes concerning this EULA are subject to the Tokyo District Court as the court of first instance. This does not displace mandatory consumer-protection laws, local court rights or remedies available in your country of residence. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to the extent lawful.
